I’ve really enjoyed doing my work experience at Young Devon this week. On Monday, I was fortunate enough to visit the YES (youth enquiry service) in Exeter and complete research on the skills to social media so that I would be able to begin posting on Young Devon’s social media. It was so interesting to see how this organisation helps so many people throughout the country and how they have done so for 70 years and will continue to do so for many more. I really enjoyed brainstorming creative ideas to contribute to Young Devon’s social media and learning about ways to advertise an organisation online.
On Tuesday, I visited ‘The Change Academy’ in Newton Abbot and from here, I became familiar with sites such as ‘Hootsuite’ and ‘Linkedin’ which would benefit my understanding of social media. I also made my first official post on the Young Devon’s Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin on the subject of Young Devon’s staff day. I learnt the importance of picking the right images and giving credit to the well-deserved staff and volunteers of Young Devon as they continue to change the odds of favour for young people.
I was back in Exeter on Wednesday and I was lucky enough to be able to visit one of the skill courses held for young people. I was able catch footage of all the work they have done recently which involved masks, pictures, poems and ways to manage mental health. They shared their ways of coping when feeling down and also their aims and ambitions for the future which was truly inspiring to listen to. From here I wanted to be able to display the footage in a way that represented the organisation and the work done truly and decided to create a short video presenting the work created as they all showed the full talent and potential of these young people and it was honouring to be able to show these on the social media page.
I’ve learnt so many vital skills this week and it has broadened my ideas for my future. I’ve become more confident and ensured in what I do and have enjoyed every minute of it. Young Devon is such an incredible organisation which has changed the life of so many people throughout the years and given so many amazing opportunities to young people. I really believe that Young Devon are changing the face of this generation and I am so grateful to have had such an amazing opportunity to help contribute to this brand.
