The world-wide Coronavirus pandemic has impacted the lives of all; young and old.

In the following article, 16-year-old Alicia tells us her experience of lockdown (in her own words), and how participating in our Youth Council has helped to keep her spirits high.

“I feel trapped in my own mind, staring at the same four walls every second of the day, thinking of the worst. Thinking that things will never end. I constantly feel tired and drained.. but who isn’t?”

All I’m listening to is the radio, on a stuck record, talking about the same old thing. I’m starting to get bored of the sound of my thoughts. As well as my thoughts and feelings, I’m keeping myself busy; walking the dog, watching TV, tidying the house and the occasional exercise. This helps a lot. I’m eating fruit and drinking water, refreshing my mindset…

I’m getting more and more positive each day. Which is good I guess?

All I keep thinking is that I’m glad I’m safe at home.

As part of the Young Devon Youth Council, I feel privileged enough to be helping those who need the support the most during this challenging time. Our work of getting the voices of young people heard is absolutely inspirational and rewarding. As well as this, I am surrounded by new amazing friends, who keep my spirits high and remind me to keep smiling.

“I’d like to thank everyone in Young Devon for all the continuous hard work supporting and helping young individuals in this crisis and for never giving up”
