The rewards of becoming a Host

"It is the best opportunity I have seen available to young people and it is very rewarding..."

I became a Host after a lot of thought.

I originally considered fostering, but after talking with a previous Host who worked for Young Devon, Hosting young people in my home felt like the best way to go.

What's most rewarding for me? Being able to be in a natural environment with a young person; spending varied times of the day together, which is not forced or planned. This brings a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere; enabling the young person to build trust in you, so together you can develop a positive relationship.

With Hosting, you get to know the young person on a more equal level. You start to be able to see where they need help, guidance or just need to offload.

"It's great to see their development and growth over time"

Hosting gives the young person consistency, stability, acceptance and a safe environment.

I would recommend being a Host if you have room to accommodate. It is the best opportunity I have seen available to young people and it is very rewarding.
