NEW COURSE DATES – Starting 24th September

Young Devon Skills & Qualifications Team are proud to offer training packages that provide young people with a progression route into work or higher level training. Young people can access short courses learning skills for life, leading to greater employability. All programmes are delivered in a way that engages, supports and challenges the learners and takes into account their personal circumstances. Learners are provided with regular 1-2-1’s and pastoral support ensuring the successful completion of the course and next steps are fulfilled.

All courses include free travel and a reward for successful completion, namely high street voucher, provisional driving licence, android tablet, CSCS card, and many more.

We are holding drop-in sign up days on all sites on the following dates between 10am and 2pm:
Wednesday 12th September – The Change Academy, Newton Abbot
Monday 17th – Georgie’s Youth Centre, Barnstaple
Tuesday 18th – Exeter Yes
Wednesday 19th – Plymouth Albion
Thursday 20th – The Windmill Centre, Torquay

Preparation for Independent Living
16-25 year olds. 12 weeks, 2 days a week
An E3 certificate in independent living skills. The course equips learners to access services, research the law and their responsibilities to the community. Learners will be expected to work in a team and provide evidence of being able to access local services and function as a responsible member of the community. Learners will gain skills in teamwork, communication, cooperation and organisation, whilst building confidence and self-esteem.
Locations covered: Plymouth, Torbay, Exeter, East Devon, Barnstaple, Bideford, Newton Abbot, Dawlish, Teignmouth & Totnes.

The Work Based Learning Programme (pre-apprenticeship)
16-25 year olds. 12 weeks, 5 days a week (3 days classroom, 2 days work experience)
The course includes a L1 certificate in employability skills and a robust work placement which allows learners to form relationships with local employers. Learners have the opportunity to undertake Maths and English qualifications (Functional Skills) if they do not already have GCSE Maths and English at grades A*-C or level 4 and above.

Princes Trust
16-25 year olds. 12 weeks, 5 days a week
A nationally recognised L1 Princes Trust certificate aimed at those trying to gain employment or move on to higher level training. Learners will get the chance to experience an outdoor residential, engage and support their community, take part in work experience and build their leadership skills.
Locations covered: Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Totnes, Ivybridge, Ashburton & Buckfastleigh.
