Substance misuse and young people course comissioned by South Devon and Dartmoor Community Safety Partnership Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Teignbridge District Council

Following intelligence suggesting professionals would benefit from more information on substance misuse and young people, we have commissioned a course, to be delivered locally, by YSmart.

We will be charging a nominal sum of £25pp in order that we can maximise the funds we have in order to expand the course to as many professionals as possible. 

The one day courses are to be held at the following locations:

Wednesday 8th March, Cary Room, South Hams District Council Offices, Totnes.  Refreshments from 0900, course time 0915 – 1700 hours

Friday 24th March, The Long Room, Teignbridge District Council Offices, Newton Abbot.  Refreshments from 0900, course time 0915 – 1700 hours

The course outcomes are as follows:

  • To understand the context of substance misuse and young people
  • To Explore reasons why some young people are more at risk of substance misuse
  • To identify protective/vulnerability factors for YP's substance Misuse
  • To Explore Drugs their effects and legal classifications.
  • to raise awareness of the impact of parental substance misuse on young people.
  • To explore the cycle of change and basic strategies to support/encourage change
  • to look at the Tier system/confidentiality and competency to consent to treatment
  • Information about local/national services to support Young people around substance misuse
  • Using case studies to consolidate learning
