Young people having their say on World Voice Day

Young people having their say on World Voice Day

On World Voice Day we have spoken to members of Young Devon's Youth Counncil about why it's important that their voices are heard. Here's what Bea has to say: "As young people, we are the most qualified in the field of the mental health of our peers. As much as the "professionals" may want to claim that title, they can't. The training they receive may look good in theory, and it may prepare them for a few variants of different scenarios, but the reality is that they will never be fully qualified in today's issues and epidemics. That is where my generation come in. Bullying, mental health and…

At last some good housing news for young people

At last some good housing news for young people

Last week the Department for Work & Pensions confirmed that they have changed the position on housing costs for people aged 18-25.  Young people in that age group will all now be able to get help with their housing costs.  Until today the younger cohort were due to lose access to Housing Benefit or Universal Credit unless they were part of specific exemption categories.  This is good news for being able to help young people access the housing they need and retain access to options such as social housing tenancies which were being questioned in some areas. You can access the full report and…

"A gorgeous lunch in exclusive surroundings"

Not our words but the thoughts of Lydia Tewkesbury in her review of our restaurant Market Street for Devon Life. A delicious lunch with a conscience – I can’t think of anything better. Last week we also welcomed Ashley to the team as our new Apprentice Chef.  After just a couple of days in Ashley made Blueberry and Cocunut muffins to die for; we selflesslessy had to try them for ourselves. It's great to see the Market Street team get the proaise they have earned through all their hard work creating a great menu, friendly space and supporting local young people into careers.     Share Tweet…

Sidmouth Plastic Warriors

On Friday 17th, Sidmouth Plastic Warriors took to the streets in a community effort to tidy up Sidmouth! Their fantastic aim is to ultimately make Sidmouth single-use-plastic-free and in between their main goal, they aim to keep Sidmouth staying environmentally friendly and looking its best through organised clean-ups! 30 motivated people of all ages came together and brought their gloves, bin bags and litter pickers, and collected an impressive 70…

Ask For Angela

Ask For Angela

The Ask for Angela campaign is a discreet way to get help in a bar or pub if a date is going wrong. It aims to prevent situations of vulnerability and potential sexual assaults. If you find yourself in a state of unease or you feel unsafe, you can approach the bar and ask for Angela. A bar member will recognise the name as a code for assistance and will discreetly help you to safety by either calling you a cab or walking you to your car. The campaign first emerged in Lincolnshire and has since gone viral as a means of discreet & subtle help. Angela is a play on Angel, acting as a guardian…
