Many children and young people are involved in caring for a parent, sibling, grandparent or another family member who has a disability, long-term illness, mental health condition, learning disability or issues with drug & alcohol. These children and young people are called Young Carers, and Young Devon is involved in supporting them locally.
Young people and children often want to help and feel that it is important to do so however sometimes the level of responsibility can lead some Young Carers to feel isolated, struggle at school, find it difficult to make friends and can leave them with very little time for themselves. Currently the Young Carer Project has over 140 children and young people registered with the project.
