The Supported Living Scheme was conceived by a multi-agency steering group and has developed over the last four years in partnership with Social Services, Housing and Supporting People.

In keeping with Care Leavers and Homeless legislation the aim is for young people in need to remain in contact with support at least until they are 18.   At the same time enabling them to gain the necessary life skills to live independently.  Our strategy has been to develop a county wide [including Exeter and Plymouth] housing support service for vulnerable young people.

We recruit, train and support families, individuals and couples who have a spare room[s] to offer young people a home with support.  Placements usually last between 8 and 24 months and then young people move-on to independent living or further supported accommodation.

These placements are supported by Support Workers from our Advice Centres across Devon.  Both families and young people have their own support worker to support and monitor placement progress.  As part of Young Devon, young people and families are able to access wider services, e.g., counselling, opportunities and training through the organisation.

We currently have 68 young people placed through Devon, Plymouth and Exeter and another five about to go into placement.  These placements are supported by approximately 15 Young Devon workers at any one time.  Contact: Supported Living Scheme Co-ordinator, Chris Danby on 01822 612555 or
